A native of Orange County, California, Nate Berkus is an American interior designer who is famously known for his Chicago interior design firm Nate Berkus Associates.
Berkus is also an author and a television personality. He had his own talk show which debuted on September 13, 2010, in broadcast syndication. The show featured make-overs, culture, design, and personal advice. It was canceled in 2012.

Nate Berkus Career
Berkus started his career after high school. He was an intern at Dominique Aurientis in Paris and Leslie Hindman in Chicago. He published his book; Home Rules: Transform the Place You Live into a Place You’ll Love in November 2005 through Hyperion Books. The same year, he started selling his merchandise at Linens’n Things stores.
Nate hosted the reality show Oprah’s Big Give. The show however ended after just two seasons in December 2011. Nate is the executive producer of the film The Help in 2011. Same year. he appeared in the soap opera Days of Our Lives as himself. Nate published his book The Things That Matter on October 16, 2012, which became a New York Times Best Seller.
He collaborated with Target stores in October 2012 to launch his Target Home collection. The collection included beddings, baths, lightings just to name a few. He launched his fabric collection at Calico Corners in January 2013. Nate was the host and one of the producers of the show American Dream Builders.
In 2017, Nate and his husband Jeremiah, launched a Tv show Nate & Jeremiah by Design on the TLC network. Nate appeared on a Hyundai Motor Company TV commercial advert in 2021. He also helped rebuild Ellicott City, Maryland in Gordon Ramsay’s untimed special in 2020.

Berkus and his husband, Jeremiah have a show on HGTV known as The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project. The show premiered on October 5, 2021. On the show, the couple help families moving into a new place let go of the things they no longer need to get a fresh start.
Nate Berkus Tsunami
In the year 2004, Nate and his then partner photographer Fernando Bengoechea were caught up in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami disaster. The two were vacationing at a beach resort in Sri Lanka when the Tsunami hit.
Berkus survived but his boyfriend, Bengoechea was missing and was eventually presumed dead. He was 39 years old at the time. In his book, “The Things That Matter” Nate paid tribute to Fernando. He talked about their love and how he changed his life.
“Fernando and I met in 2003 at a photoshoot for O at Home magazine. He had been hired to photograph the makeover process of a living room I was brought in to redo.
“How many people are lucky enough to have the very first meeting of a great love documented by the nature of what they do professionally? The day I met him, I could see, through his photographs, how he saw me, and I remember thinking, Things don’t get any better than this,” Nate wrote about Fernando.
