A native of Sacramento, California, Lisa Ling born Lisa J. Ling is an American journalist, television personality, and author. She is best known for being the current host of This Is Life with Lisa Ling on CNN. Ling previously worked as a reporter on Channel One News.
Moreover, from 1999-2002, she was a co-host on the ABC daytime talk show, The View. In addition, she worked as the host of National Geographic Explorer from 2003 to 2010 and as a special correspondent for The Oprah Winfrey Show. From 2011 to 2014, she hosted Our America with Lisa Ling on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Her father on the other hand is a Chinese immigrant who was born in Hong Kong in 1937.
In addition, her paternal grandmother was born in Labuan, now known as Malaysia. Her paternal grandfather, who was from Guangzhou, Guangdong, was one of the first Chinese students allowed to study in the United States in the 1930s.[when?] He received his graduate degree from New York University and an M.B.A degree from the University of Colorado. He struggled to find a job in the United States and eventually opened the first Chinese restaurant in Folsom, California.
Unfortunately, Lisa’s parents got divorced when she was only 7 years old. After the divorce, she was brought up alongside her sister in Carmichael, California, a city outside of Sacramento, by their father.

In 2004, Lisa met businessman and future Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine through mutual friends. Soon after meeting, the two love birds started dating. On February 18th, 2005, the duo got engaged, however, in November of the same year, Ling broke off the engagement. During an interview with People Magazine, she said that she broke off the engagement siting their busy schedules, especially the frequent global travel required by her job.
To the surprise of many, on January 3rd, 2007, she announced her engagement to radiation oncologist Paul Song. On May 26th, 2007, the beautiful couple tied the knot together in Los Angeles, California. The wedding party included guests such as Connie Chung, one of Lisa’s personal heroes, and actresses Kelly Hu and Diane Farr.
Lisa was awarded an honorary doctorate from National University, after giving the commencement speech there. During an interview on Anderson Cooper’s Talk Show, in October 2012, Ling took the opportunity to surprise her fans by announcing that she and her husband were expecting their first child, a baby girl. On March 8th, 2013, she gave birth to a daughter named Jett Ling Song. On June 6th, 2016, she gave birth to a second child, a daughter called Ray Ling Song. The family currently resides in Santa Monica, California.
