Kathy Hochul Biography
A native of Buffalo, New York, Kathy Hochul is an American lawyer and politician. She will serve as the 57th governor of New York following Andrew Cuomo’s resignation.
Hochul has been serving as Lieutenant Governor of New York since 2015. She will be the first female governor of New York.
From 1994 to 2007, Kathy served as a member of the Hamburg Town Board. She had previously worked as a lawyer and legislative aide. Later from 2007 to 2011, she served as the county clerk of Erie County, New York.
That same year, 2011, Kathy won the four-candidate special election to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Republican Chris Lee. She became the first Democrat to represent the district in 40 years.
Hochul was selected by Governor Cuomo in 2014 as his running mate in the 2014 New York gubernatorial election. They won the election and she was appointed Lieutenant Governor of New York. They won again in 2018.
