Jazz Jennings a native of South Florida, is an American YouTube personality, spokesmodel, television personality, and LGBT rights activist. She gained massive attention for being one of the youngest publicly documented people to be identified as transgender.

In 2007, she had an interview with Barbara Walters which aired on 20/20. This resulted in more popularity. The same year, she founded TransKids Purple Rainbow Foundation alongside her parents and in 2013, she founded Purple Rainbow Tails. She stars alongside her family in TLC’s reality tv show Am Jazz. Her popularity goes way back to when she appeared alongside her parents on tv to talk about the challenges she faces as transgender. Her story was covered by 20/20 and The Rosie Show tv shows. She founded TransKids Purple Rainbow Foundation alongside her parents in 2007 and in 2013, she founded Purple Rainbow Tails.

The company makes rubber mermaid tails to raise money for transgender children. In her interview with Barbara Walters, she discussed her battle with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) that lasted 2 and a half years. she wanted to be allowed to play on the girl’s team.

She was able to change the policies to allow trans students to play with the help of the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Her children’s book I Am Jazz was published in 2013. She co-wrote the book with Jessica Herthel, the director of the Stonewall National Education Project.

In 2014, she arrived as a guest at the GLAAD Media Awards and was named one of “The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014” by Time. She was also named as the youngest person ever featured on Out’s “Out 100”, Advocate’s “40 Under 40” lists, OUT’s 2014 Trans 100 list, and a Human Rights Campaign Youth Ambassador.

In 2015, Jazz became a spokesmodel for Clean & Clear and modeled for the NOH8 Campaign. Her memoir Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen was published in 2016. Robert Tonner and the Tonner Doll Company made a transgender doll modeled after Jennings. Jazz has voiced several characters including teenage transgender Zadie in Danger & Eggs and Lily the Fairy in The Bravest Knight.
